Independent wealth management

Inspire is an independent wealth management firm serving Wilmington, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill (Research Triangle), Charlotte, Greensboro, and Asheville, NC. Inspire also provides wealth management services for the greater metro area of Richmond, VA. As independent financial advisors, we are free to offer holistic investment services that suit the best interests of our clients.

Fiduciary financial advisors

We are fiduciaries. We have a legal obligation to put your interests above ours. Many other firms are not fiduciaries; their loyalties often lie more with their employers than their clients. This can be a conflict of interest. If you work with Inspire, you can rest assured that you are partnering with a fiduciary investment firm that serves your best interest. Our lead financial advisor has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.     learn more about Inspire's team..

Fee-only wealth management

Inspire offers fee-only wealth management.  Fee-only asset management is a method of compensation for financial advisors and is the most transparent and objective method available.

The fee-only compensation method minimizes conflicts and ensures that your financial planner acts as a fiduciary. Fee-only planners are compensated directly by their clients for advice, plan implementation, and ongoing management of assets.

Our fee-only portfolios are 100% commission free. We take this further by utilizing exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with some of the lowest expense ratios available. The Investment Company Institute found that the average mutual fund expense ratio for stocks is 0.44%*. ETF expenses generally run less than 0.06% per year or about 1/7th the cost of the average mutual fund.

As fiduciary financial advisors, we have an obligation to offer investments with low-cost expenses. This keeps more of your money in your pocket. Let us know if you would like our wealth management team to analyze your current portfolio expense ratios. Our fee-only portfolio can reduce your asset management costs.     *Investment Company Institute- March 30, 2023.

Founder's story

The origins of Inspire go back to 1988, the year before founder Jeff Headrick’s father died.

About six months before his death, he told Jeff that he had done some financial planning and that if anything ever happened to him (Jeff’s dad), his family would be well taken care of financially.

However, Jeff’s father had overlooked some things. He mistakenly made some selections with his employer benefits that benefited his family the least instead of the most. And then, in early 1989, he passed away.

In retrospect, Jeff’s father’s human resources department could have better explained the nuances of his financial options. Or perhaps he should have educated himself more and made better decisions. Better yet, what if Mr. Headrick had chosen to work with a fiduciary financial advisor who would have better prepared his family for a life-changing event?

While Jeff’s family eventually recovered from the financial toll of his father’s death, the entire event instilled in Jeff the importance of keeping your family’s finances in order. He promised himself that he would make better financial decisions when he became a husband and father. And, if possible, to inspire others to take financial planning and financial education seriously.

Jeff entered the financial service industry ten years after his father’s death. Since then, he has counseled hundreds of families on managing their wealth, preparing for a sound retirement, and preparing for the unexpected.     learn more about the founder..

Is Inspire right for you?

We work best with high-net-worth clients at a wealth management nexus where decisions must be made within a month or two. This could be retirement, the sale of a business, an inheritance, a job change, or some other crossroad that has created a need for sound financial planning.

In particular, we excel in the following three areas:

·       We introduce you to the right people. High-net-worth individuals need a team of experts from various areas of wealth management. Let us be your financial nexus and introduce you to a CPA you will enjoy working with and an attorney who speaks a language you understand. Let us introduce you to a team of people from various backgrounds who can ease your wealth management concerns.

 ·       We help minimize “the stupid tax.” The founder of Inspire is a fan of Dave Ramsey. Ramsey says that when people make financial mistakes that could have easily been prevented, they have to pay “the stupid tax.” In other words, they have to learn the hard way. Just like in football, the first thing you have to do to secure a win is not to fumble. Solid wealth management is as much about preventing mistakes as it is investment selection. We can help you minimize the stupid tax and maximize sound financial decision-making.

 ·        We bring you clarity. Our team of experts can help make complex simple. In short, we can bring you clarity.

 Boutique family office

Inspire may be the firm for you if you are looking for a boutique, high-net-worth family-office type of experience. We are big enough to have institutional relationships with Charles Schwab, The Vanguard Group, and American Funds but small enough to know our clients on a first-name basis. We know our clients’ favorite books, movies, and beverages. The more we know our clients, the better we can serve them.

Money and wealth are very personal. The closer your relationship is with your financial advisor, the better off your wealth planning will be. When selecting a wealth management firm, make sure it is big enough to have strong relationships with other professionals but small enough to remember who you are and what makes you tick.

Our Promise

We promise to keep all initial consultations free from sales speak of any kind and have no motive other than to serve your best interests. Since there is no better time than now, please take a few seconds and schedule a meeting with an Inspire financial advisor. We look forward to discussing whether our fiduciary wealth management firm is the right fit for you and your family.

SIPC at Charles Schwab

Beginning in 2023, most of our client assets will be custodied at *Charles Schwab. Schwab is a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), which protects securities and cash in client brokerage accounts, including those held by clients of investment advisors with Schwab Advisor Services. SIPC protections are activated when the broker-dealer fails (bankruptcy) and client assets are missing due to fraud or other causes.

FDIC protection at Schwab

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency that maintains the Deposit Insurance Fund, which is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government. Its purpose is to protect depositors’ funds in banks and savings associations. The FDIC insures accounts held at member banks up to $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, based on ownership category.

However, all deposits held at the same FDIC-insured bank in the same ownership capacity are added together to determine your total amount of FDIC insurance coverage at that bank. This rule applies whether you open an account directly at the bank (such as a Schwab Bank Investor Checking™ or Schwab Bank Investor Savings account™) or whether Schwab brokerage holds the accounts on your behalf (such as through Schwab’s Bank Sweep feature). Bank Sweep deposits may be swept into more than one Program Bank to extend your total FDIC coverage.

The best financial advisors for your wealth management

If you are searching for the best financial advisor for your wealth management, here are some questions you should ask:

  • Are they an independent investment management firm?
  • Is the wealth management firm you are considering a fiduciary? (A fiduciary is a person or organization that acts on behalf of a person or persons and is legally bound to act solely in their best interests.)
  • Do they offer a fee-only investment platform that is 100% commission free?
  • Are they big enough to have the right wealth management relationships (CPA, attorney, business consultant), but small enough to know you personally (similar to a boutique family office)?
